The 1st PAN-European Forum

22 February 2010, Bar, Montenegro

Image On Monday, 22 February 2010 in Bar, Montenegro, was held the 1st PAN-European Forum of the project ECOPORT 8 with the theme of "EU Standards analysis on port environmental policies".

This international event is organized by the Institute of Marine Biology from Kotor and the Port of Bar with the support of Patras Science Park (Greece). Theme of the Forum was  the National and EU environmental standards with focus on EU Standards analysis on port environmental policies.

The Opening of the Forum was welcomed by representatives of the Montenegrin Government and local authorities who are  together with partners and Observers: Mr. Michele Grimaldi (Former Coordinator of the Corridor VIII Secretariat,Italy) and Mr. Konstantinos Grinias (Igoumenitsa Port Authority, Greece), actively participated in the work of the Forum.

The event was greeted by Mr. Slobo Pajovic, Executive Director of the Port of Bar,  Dr Aleksandar Joksimoviĉ, Director of the Institute of Marine Biology, Mr. Dragan Simovic, Deputy Mayor of Bar, Ms. Danijela Radulovic, Advisor, Ministry for Traffic, Maritime Affairs and Telecommunication, Mr. Novak Cadjenovic, Advisor, Ministry for urban planning and environmental protection, Ms. Milena Ulic, Advisor, Ministry for European Integration and Mrs. Daliborka Pejovic, Director of the EPA of Montenegro. They all emphasized the importance of the project ECOPORT 8 for setting the standards in national laws for preserving and protecting the environment against marinne pollution and for harmonizing national legislations with EU standards and EU legislations. Montenegro has in this field the need for international cooperation and assistance which is reflected through the implementation of the project.

Through presentations and discussions of all  participants it was given an overview of legislation and international involvement of Montenegro regarding the protection of the sea, tasks and prospects of development of transport network in the Balkan Region, and the state and the importance of the port of Bar and Port Igumeniza.

General presentation of the project ECOPORT 8 was held by representative of Leader Partner of   the project Prof. Leonardo Damiani, Politecnico Bari and Dr Zoran Kljajiĉ, Institute of Marine Biology Kotor.
