ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT OF TRANSBORDER CORRIDOR PORTS 
The Institute of Marine Biology-Kotor and The Delegation of The European Union to Montenegro signed on 1st December 2009 Grant Contract for the ECOPORT 8 project. ECOPORT 8 (Environmental Management of Transborder Corridor Ports) is project approved within The South East Europe Transnational Cooperation Programme (The SEE Programme) that deal with protection and improvement of the Ports Environment and overcoming current difficulties in the field such as: the lack of specific environmental regulation, fragmentation and the non-homogenous nature of the solutions adopted by single ports.

The aim of ECOPORT 8 is to prevent the pollution of sea water, air, ground, and preserve all natural resources in port areas and nearby coastal zones, through close cooperation of scientific institutions and local port authorities. The ECOPORT involves PAN-EU corridor 8 ports gathering partners and observers from six countries: Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, Italia and Montenegro. The leader partner is Bari Polytechnic, Italia.  The Institute of Marine Biology and Port of Bar are the IPA partners of SEE Programme from Montenegro. Montenegro will benefit joining the PAN-EU corridor 8 and collaborating with other partners within the ECOPORT 8 project through better preserving and improving eco-system of the prots and its wider surroundings.  News The Second Steering Committee of the project was held on 3-4 December in Durres – Albania, where partners discussed about realised activities within the first project period (Environmental national and EU standards, Communication plan) and plans for future technical and management activities for the second project period.
